10TH ANNUAL Celebration of Ranching and Frontier Spirit

featuring the debut of Mountain Money

Saguache Community Building – January 31, 2010 – 10am to 4pm – Potluck at 12:00 noon

That’s right folks, this year marks the 10TH YEAR of gathering to celebrate the ranching culture and heritage that has preserved our frontier spirit through the generations. We gather to celebrate the land we love and the experiences we share through food, stories and music. Our community together can cultivate a future that protects the things that make Saguache County home to you!

This year, we highlight the Frontier Spirit that is shared by everyone from the biggest scale ranchers to the smallest scale gardeners. The celebration continues to be a cherished opportunity to share and hear stories, poems and songs about life in Saguache County. Come and tell your tales about how you got here, why you live here and what frontier spirit means to you! Sugar-coating not required.

This year’s celebration marks the release of Saguache County’s new local currency, Mountain Money. This program feeds our frontier spirit by aiming to strengthen the local economy and keep us all here!

Beginning at 10am, come get your Mountain Money! Learn more over coffee and baked goods about Saguache County’s new local currency project that aims to complement (not replace) the US Dollar by increasing currency circulation within our county. Mountain Money will be available for exchange at the event and at the 3 branches of the SCCU. It is tradable for the US Dollar at a 5% discount and is worth the same as the US Dollar at participating businesses. This ONE DAY ONLY, SCSEED DOLLARS can be traded for Mountain Money. Tell all your friends! Check out the all-day market where participating local businesses will advertise and display the goods and services offered to Mountain Money holders. If you are interested in participating in the program and showing your goods at the market, contact Ali at ali@scseed.org or by leaving a message with ScSEED at 719.655.2775. The Business Information Packet is available at www.scseed.org.

At HIGH NOON, the potluck dinner bell rings! Bring your best dish to share and enjoy the cooking traditions of your neighbors. Please BRING YOUR OWN SERIVCE to minimize our waste. Drinks will be provided.

At 1pm, Cowboy Poet, Peggy Godfrey, will kick off an afternoon of folklore and custom told through stories, poems and music. Catch famous singer/songwriter, Rick Wertz, singing the Mountain Money song accompanied by Thad & Sue Englert of the Seat of the Pants Philharmonic. Contact Liza Marron at marronl@vwhs.org or 539-5606 to share your frontier spirit stories and songs. Presenters are asked to limit spoken word to 5 minutes and music to 10 minutes. From 3 to 4pm, musicians of any skill level can join in to the open bluegrass jam.

To find out more, go to www.scseed.org or call 655-2775.
