Soda Springs Trailhead Improvements - May 30, 2015

ScSEED is looking for volunteers to help enhance access to public lands in Saguache County Saturday, May 30. Explore this beautiful area between Villa Grove and the ghost town of Bonanza while learning new trail maintenance skills. Tools, safety gear, and training is provided, plus volunteers will receive lunch and a t-shirt. No trail maintenance or volunteer experience is necessary. The group will meet at 8:30am at the Soda Springs Trailhead, work until about 2pm and then enjoy the afternoon with hikes and tours in the Bonanza and Kerber Creek area. Space is limited so register below to reserve your spot!

The Soda Springs Trail begins off County Road LL56, about seven miles west of Villa Grove. It travels north along the creek before reaching Forest Service property but has fallen into disrepair and is in need of maintenance. Volunteers will work alongside trained crew leaders to rebuild creek crossings, construct switchbacks, improve the trail surface, build rock cairns, and improve the parking area to accommodate horse trailers. The project is funded by the Roundup Riders of the Rockies Heritage and Trails Foundation and supported by a partnership between ScSEED, Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado and the Bureau of Land Management.
